Governor Fashola Advocates N200 Monthly Donation By Lagos Residents.
The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has called on relevant stakeholders in the state to collaborate with his administration to ensure universal access to good health in Lagos State through the monthly donation of N200 by Lagos residents to cater for the state’s health sector.
Speaking at the 2013 State Council on Health held at Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, he added that if this little amount of money could be donated as suggested, there would be no need for Nigerians spending huge sums of money on medical attention overseas again.
“We are looking at a situation where even the lowest income earners, somebody who roasts yam or fried plantain, can participate in the scheme. Is there anyone among this category who cannot afford N50 weekly?,” he said.
According to him, if just the 6 million people that voted in the 2011 general election could contribute N200 each, the state would have more than enough to cater for the health sector and all cases of people in search of fund for surgeries.....

Woman's Troll-Doll Obsession.
Remember those troll dolls from the 1960s?.....Michelle Kerrins doesn't have to strain hard to conjure up the memories. All she has to do is walk into the spare room she calls her "troll sanctuary," which houses her monster collection of spike-haired plastic dolls.
The 38-year-old L.A. gymnastics instructor began collecting troll dolls at age 10 and has now amassed more than 3,000 of various types and sizes, spending four days a week thrift-shopping for more.
Her 14-year-old daughter helps with the collection, but alas, her husband, Dean, is less enthusiastic. He considers it a turn-off when Kerrins puts on a troll-doll mask and bikini and tries to flirt with him.
No accounting for taste, I guess.
Football's Messi Scores Movie Hat-Trick Planned For 2014 World Cup.
US filmmakers are to make a biopic about Argentinian football legend Lionel Messi, to be released around the time of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Beverly Hills-based Epic Pictures Group said it has acquired the rights to a biography of the Barcelona star, "Messi: The Inside Story of the Boy Who Became a Legend."
The film will be a dramatisation based on the book by European sports journalist Luca Caioli, rather than a documentary. Epic will finance and produce it, and are looking for a writer and director.
Caioli drew on interviews with family, coaches and teammates for the book, which was originally titled "Messi: The Boy who could not Grow" -- a reference to growth hormone deficiency he suffered as a boy.
"Ultimately, this is a Rocky-style tale about a young boy from humble beginnings who overcomes his physical shortcomings to become one of the greatest players of all time," said the film company.
The book has been published in 32 countries in 31 languages. Luca Caioli said: "I am very excited to be working with Epic Pictures Group on this powerful story."
Epic Pictures chief executive Patrick Ewald added: "The goal is to make a powerful and positive film that will leave audiences feeling inspired to go after their dreams no matter how impossible they may seem."
The company noted, in its release about the Messi film, that it recently won acclaim for "Big Ass Spider!" by director Mike Mendez, which premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Texas in March....
Selena Gomez Files Countersuit Against Fragrance Company.
Lawsuits are stinky, especially when perfume is involved. Selena Gomez was sued by the Adrenalina fragrance company for breach of contract, and now she’s striking back with a countersuit of her own.
Late last month, Adrenalina filed a suit against Gomez, claiming they spent over $2 million on marketing alone in addition to research and development for her perfumes. They said Gomez and her camp came up with a bogus excuse to end the deal, leaving Adrenalina without a spokesperson, and they sued for both damages and to lock Gomez into endorsing the products.
Now, TMZ reports that Gomez claims she backed out of the deal when she got wind that Adrenalina wouldn’t be able to fulfill their end of the deal. Gomez’s filing says Adrenalina was going broke and wouldn’t be able to pay for the manufacture and marketing of the perfume line she was slated to endorse, and that the company could barely afford to even pay its own workers.
If they couldn’t muster that, her lawsuit alleges, they likely wouldn’t have been able to pony up the $5.2 million she was promised up front as well as the 5 percent in royalty sales on the Sel-branded scents. Gomez claims she nixed the deal to protect her own reputation and is demanding $5.2 million from the company — minimum......

Bank Customers To Pay N100 ATM Maintenance Fee In Nigeria.
The Central Bank of Nigeria has directed bank customers to pay N100 annually for the maintenance of their automated transaction machine, ATM.
CBN, under Mallam Lamido Sanusi, in a recent directive to all banks operating in Nigeria stated that the annual fee replaces the monthly card maintenance fee, which banks were charging their customers in the past.
www.allvoices.com reporter learnt from reliable sources that the directive is with immediate effect.
It could be re-called that over the years, Nigerian bank customers have grumbled over the erratic and reckless manners some banks have been deducting money from their accounts in the name of maintenance fee and other charges.
With the CBN directive, it is expected that the burdens of bank customers may have been made lighter, a bank official with Ecobank Group said today.
UAE Says Three Citizens Held Over Tanzania Bombing.
Tanzanian officials initially said four Saudis were being held after the attack on a Catholic church in Arusha in north Tanzania but the government subsequently identified them only as "foreigners of Middle Eastern origin" without giving their nationalities.
A diplomat from Saudi Arabia has been quoted as saying only one of those held was from the kingdom.
"We are following with interest the issue of the three citizens who are being held in Tanzania," the UAE Foreign Ministry of the U.S.-allied Gulf state said on its Twitter account.
Investigators said they were still determining the type of device used in the attack on the church in Tanzania, a nation of about 45 million people roughly split evenly between Muslims and Christians.
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the UAE foreign minister, on Monday condemned the attack, which has heightened sectarian tensions in the east African country.
The Vatican's ambassador to Tanzania, Archbishop Francisco Montecillo Padilla, was attending the official opening of the church when the explosion occurred. He escaped unharmed.
Saudi ambassador in Dar es-Salaam, Hani Abdallah Mo'menah, said one Saudi and three Emiratis had been arrested, Tuesday's edition of Saudi al-Riyadh daily reported.
"When the attack happened, the Saudi, his three Emirati friends and two Tanzanian friends happened to be where the explosion took place in Arusha," the paper quoted him as saying.
Mo'menah said he was on his way to Arusha, adding: The whole issue is mere suspicion and we expect them to be released, God willing." He said the group were there as tourists.
Two Christian leaders were killed in Tanzania's semi-autonomous, predominantly Muslim islands of Zanzibar earlier this year and there have been attacks on Muslim leaders and mosques..
